Paradontologie
Periodontosis is treated in three stages, the common goal of which is to remove all hard and soft deposits on the tooth surface and to restore healthy gum tissue.
Level 1, the so-called initial treatment is largely identical to professional tooth cleaning. It includes the removal of all easily accessible coverings and deposits using ultrasound and hand instruments. The initial treatment can be carried out by the dentist or by a helper trained in prophylaxis. If there are already gum pockets, this is usually followed by a "closed periodontal treatment". The goal is again to remove all hard and soft deposits from the gum pockets. This treatment is carried out by the dentist under local anesthesia.
In the case of very deep gum pockets, an "open periodontal treatment" may be necessary. The gums are gently pushed away from the tooth, of course under anesthesia, the gum or bone pocket is cleaned and, if necessary, a bone replacement is inserted into the defect. This method can often be used to restore lost bone. The prerequisite for this is an experienced practitioner and comprehensive and individual aftercare.
